In this article, we are going to discuss the applications of IoT in supply chain management. First, of what is supply chain management. Supply chain management is the management of the flow of goods and services. As we all know, IoT is one of the fastest-growing fields in the world. We are trying to integrate all the information into the cloud. For free access to the data across different data centers. It is the same with the supply chain we are trying to integrate the information to the cloud. which will help clients in the supply chain like vendors, people in business, etc. In this article, we are going to talk about the applications of IoT in supply chain management.

Smart agriculture

Of all IoT enabled solutions, smart agriculture systems are most important. As they are one of the core sectors in the industry. The agriculture domain is also the fastest in adopting IoT solutions.

There are many applications of IoT in smart agriculture. Some of them include soil condition monitoring, weather monitoring, greenhouse management system, pest control system, etc.

Product inspection

As profits are decreasing and consumer expectation is rising. It’s for manufacturers more important than ever to optimize for quality in their operation. Fortunately, quality management technology has made huge advancements in recent years. Today organizations within manufacturing use artificial intelligence and IoT enabled solutions. They integrate the machinery with sensors and cameras .these help in detecting quality issues early in the production process. 

An important enabler of applying AI in manufacturing is the internet of things (IoT). In combination, they form the basis for Industry 4.0. Data derived from sensors within the production process create a goldmine of information. Companies can gather real-time data about performance and quality to avert possible issues. They, can keep tabs on parts and products when shipped from factory to warehouse and beyond. Manufacturers can also glean insights from their increasingly connected products after the sale.

New technology can play an important role in optimizing quality. Artificial intelligence (AI) can help to check products on the basis of a library of known defects. Cameras and/or acoustic systems identify issues that are too small for the human eye or ear. They can detect changes in images or vibration that may indicate a problem.

Just in time production system

Just in time inventory is one of the popular methods in which business owners. Produce final products only when the customer has requested and paid for it. Here the products are not assembled before the customer requests which impacts the storage costs. Jit is one of the best management strategies that is applied in the business to increase efficiency and productivity.

The method helps reduce waste and contributes to smoother production flow.  Here you won’t have to stock up the products before time. Rather the inventory will be available on time to meet your exact demands.

The products are first integrated with sensors that can track the products as they go along the way. vendors can take advantage of this just in the time production system as they already know when their products are scheduled to arrive. this technique is already being implemented in big tech firms like mc Donald, Toyota, Apple.this helps in maximizing the profits and also saves time for the producers.

Food safety procedures

The implementation of the internet of things (IoT) in the food industry has been considerably diminishing the risk of food illness epidemic. Different kinds of sensors are being used to monitor essential production state, shipping time, and most essentially the temperature. The utilization of real-time temperature tracking sensors allows organizations to closely supervise food safety data points, ensuring effective cold chain management.

With IoT, the supply chain will be able to function jointly to become acquiescent with global and local regulations. Automated Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) checklists are being used throughout the manufacturing, production, and transporting procedures thereby companies can get access to meaningful and consistent data that enable them to put into practice some food safety solutions.

With the availability and enlargement of the Internet of Things (IoT) solutions & Services, the supply chain industry is experiencing some key transformations It mainly facilitates the tracking and monitoring of goods, brings more transparency to the communication process, and increases the precision of planning.
