Internet of things encompasses devices like sensors, actuators, motors etc. Nowadays everyone wants to secure the valuable objects like vehicles. Security is enhanced by using GPS. Therefore, the proposed system is used as an anti-theft system in the transport system. Internet of things in vehicles tracking system currently working on the three technologies. Those are:

  • Radiofrequency identification or RFID: RFID helps to control and track products.
  • Global positioning system or GPS: Obtain real-time information on routes.
  • Onboard diagonostics or OBD II: OBD II obtains information on vehicle maintenance and driving conditions

Now coming to point that how it works in fleet technology. Here are the steps of its operation:

  • Locations of the vehicles are collected on GPS, OBD II and sensors.
  • Collected data are sent to a local gateway over a data connection.
  • The gateway sends information to the network server. Speed, location, direction of the vehicles are sent to the secure server in the cloud.
  • The server of the application sends reports about the vehicle to the driver or the supervisor.

IoT enables to set up an automatic flow of logistics processes as the interconnected device and work as a part of an integrated process. Similarly, if it finds any lag in the performance of vehicle it sends a notification to the supervisor. In addition, sharing, gathering real-time information helps in improvement. In conclusion, IoT adds better analytics in tracking and monitoring devices.
